First ever Colleagues on Tap Office Xmas Party was a real cracker!
20th December 2012
It's great working for yourself. That's a fact. 'Going it alone' means freedom, flexibility and of course plenty of fun, but as we've discovered through Colleagues on Tap a few people around you now and again can help to make running a business much more fun; working for yourself doesn't have to mean working *by* yourself!
So what about Christmas? The Office Xmas Party has, traditionally, been the annual event that marks the end of the working year, and provides a well-earned thank you from a company to its employees for a good well done. So what if you run your own business; what then?
Well now we have the answer! 50 business owners from across the region, from Northumberland to Teesside, joined together at Newcastle Business Village at Clavering House on 19th December 2012 for the first ever Colleagues on Tap Office Xmas Party. The event was a sell-out, proving it's the perfect way for business owners to celebrate the festivities, and to congratulate each other (and themselves!) for a good job done.
The buzz of the crowd quickly gathered in the Office Club Hub. Party-goers shared not only the food and drinks on offer, courtesy of our sponsors Xero Accountancy Software, and supporting sponsors MyPhoneBuddy and Made To Treasure (who decked out the hub fittingly for the occasion); they also shared the knowledge that working together is much more productive (and fun!) than going it alone. Most, if not all of the party guest, pledged to engage in co-working during 2013, and Colleagues on Tap co-working days provide the perfect opportunity to do that!
Some great raffle prizes were won at the half way point; here's a roll-call. Congratulations to all of the winners and huge thanks to everyone who generously donated prizes:

Colleagues on Tap provides just the right balance of work and chatJo Singh, Virtual Sidekicks
In the past I have always been either running events or attending on behalf of an organisation so to be at a Colleagues on Tap co-working day just for me was both refreshingly cathartic and a little bit scary!
Fortunately I don't mind a little bit of healthy fear and I feel like I gained a great deal from the day, not only getting out of my home office and chatting to other adults, but hearing about other people's businesses and issues helped me clarify what was bugging me and also gave me a little inspiration.
I really liked the format of the day, it was just the right balance of work and chat the relaxed and unpretentious atmosphere you created made the 'networking' side of it unforced and more genuine.
